PUBG - LABS: Ranked Ruleset

LABS: Ranked Ruleset

Posted: 05 Mar 2020 10:59 PM PST

Hello players!

One of the most important elements of Battle Royale is survival, and being the last survivor standing means growing through experience. However, many of you have stated that PUBG also needs to promote the fierce competition between players as they play and win games, and a ruleset to amplify that competitive spirit. For those players, we're happy to introduce the Ranked Ruleset.

A ruleset like this needs feedback though, so like our previous skill-based rating test, we're looking to PUBG LABS to gather your feedback as quickly and efficiently as possible.

During this LABS test, we'll be analyzing the data and your feedback to better understand what our players are enjoying and will adjust the ruleset accordingly before we take it live.

Now, let's take a look at the details of the Ranked Ruleset and when you can get in and try it out!

Test Goals & Expectations

The Ranked Ruleset test aims to merge the strengths of both public and esport ruleset settings to build a new ruleset specifically made for competitive play. We hope this adds some additional tools for players to be competitive without it being too jarring for players coming from normals.

The Ranked Ruleset test will be available in both FPP and TPP mode and maps will be chosen randomly from Erangel, Miramar and Sanhok. The number of players will be reduced to 64 as well.

Other changes of the ruleset are as below.

Loot Spawn Adjustment

For an environment like this to thrive, players need access to the right tools to be competitive. Therefore, the item spawn rate on all 3 maps has been set higher than that of normal Battle Royale games. In addition, the spawn rate of preferred items such as primary weapons, Level 2 equipment, 4x scopes, and First Aid Kits have been increased to make for a more competitive environment. Players will still have to loot several areas in order to be fully equipped, but should be going into firefights with at least a start on their final loadout.

Blue Zone Balance Adjustment

To help keep the fight moving with fewer players, the Blue Zone will also have a few changes from normal games. The first safe zones will be similar to that of public matches, but the tempo will grow faster as the game continues to force more confrontations as the player count drops. The goal of these settings is to allow players to test their skills in a more tense environment than in traditional public matches.

Other Adjustments

The starting plane's flight path is more likely to fly closer to the first safe area.

Vehicle spawns are same as the normal games, but the Motor Glider is temporarily disabled until we can put more thought into if it is right for competitive game play. Your feedback here would be welcomed as well!

Red Zones have been adjusted to act as an additional threat for out of position players and are much more likely to occur at the edge of the safe zone.

We've decided to keep Flare Guns in for now as they provide a strategic choice between Care Packages and the BRDM-2. If this item sways competitive games too heavily, we'll look to adjust or remove the Flare Guns.

For this test, players will unfortunately not gain BP or Survivor Pass XP for Ranked Ruleset matches due to them being in LABS.

Test Schedule

The Ranked Ruleset will be available in the LABS section of the menu during the dates listed below. For easy access, we've added a LABS banner above the start button!

Start: March 6th - 16:00 KST / March 6th - 0700 UTC
End: March 9th - 16:00 KST / March 9th - 0700 UTC

Feedback

Feedback from this test will help us determine if it is right for our upcoming Competitive Mode or whether we need to make some adjustments, so be sure to share your thoughts on what you do and do not like. While we're not quite ready to dive into the specifics of the upcoming Competitive Mode, keep an eye out for another announcement with more details in the coming months.

Thanks for playing!

Important Rocket League Esports Update

Posted: 05 Mar 2020 10:35 AM PST

At Psyonix, we take the safety of our competitive players, fans, and personnel very seriously. Due to worldwide health concerns surrounding the developing situation around the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are cancelling the Rocket League Season 9 World Championship live event as scheduled from April 24-26 in Dallas, Texas. We understand that this is frustrating, but health and safety will always be our top priority.

For fans that bought tickets to attend the event at the Curtis Culwell Center through the ETIX website, a refund will be granted automatically to your card in full, including all fees. There will also be an automatic refund for any fans who pre-purchased parking passes. If you haven't received a refund by Wednesday, March 11, you can contact ETIX support at support@etix.com. If you bought a ticket from a third-party retailer, please contact them directly with refund requests. Regarding the previously announced attendee in-game Wheel, in April, we will email codes (one per ticket) to those that bought tickets via ETIX.

The remainder of Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Season 9 League Play will be played as scheduled to the Regional Championships and Promotion Tournament. We're evaluating all options to replace World Championship play. Once we have more information to share, we'll update everyone.

There will also be changes to our weekly broadcasts for RLCS and the Rival Series. As the health and wellbeing of our broadcast talent is also of utmost importance, we'll be moving the broadcast completely online for the remainder of the season beginning this week. You'll still be able to watch RLCS and Rival Series matches Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as usual, but the broadcast talent will not be in-studio. Additionally, we are actively working with our partners in Oceania and South America in order to ensure the health and safety of players and personnel there as well and we'll share updates accordingly.

As mentioned before, the safety and health of our professional players, personnel, and fans will continue to be our first consideration as we navigate our future plans. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we explore the best options moving forward. We are still looking forward to producing the highest level of competitive Rocket League for fans around the world, and hope you join us as we move Season 9 online.

Changes to Spectres and Movement Skills in Path of Exile: Delirium

Posted: 05 Mar 2020 03:57 PM PST

In Path of Exile: Delirium we've made a variety of adjustments to some movement skills and introduced hundreds of new monster types to the pool of spectre possibilities.

Movement Skills
In the interest of giving players more competitive choices when picking a movement skill, we've made various improvements to some skills and have introduced a new Support Gem called Second Wind. Flame Dash was by far the most popular movement skill because of its versatility but with these changes we've given the other skills more niche uses that should make them more compelling choices.

The new Second Wind support adds an additional cooldown count to skills that already have a cooldown (excluding instant or triggered skills). This means you can use them one extra time before the cooldown prevents their use. This allows two uses in rapid succession for skills that usually only have one use like Blink Arrow or Dash, or four uses on Flame Dash or Smoke Mine.

The intention of its design is to improve travel skills and encourage investment into them but it also has some other interesting uses on certain skills like Frost Bomb. It also gives supported skills a small amount of Cooldown Recovery Speed as the gem levels, which is great for skills that usually have very little access to this bonus.

Here are some of the changes we've made to some travel skills:
  • Dash now gains travel distance as it levels, and works particularly well with Second Wind to be able to travel long distances in a short time.
  • Frostblink now deals damage and places chilled ground at both the start and end of the movement, and counts enemies at both areas to reduce its cooldown. This makes it great for both moving into and out of a fight. It also travels further than before, and gains travel distance as it levels. It can't be supported by Second Wind because it is instant. To compensate for this, it has received more improvements than other skills mentioned here.
  • Flame Dash has had its increased Cooldown Recovery Speed per level lowered slightly, as it was slightly above curve and does benefit from the Second Wind support.
  • Lightning Warp has had its cast time lowered and has a higher value of reduced Skill Effect Duration than before. This makes it easier to invest in but still requires more character investment than other movement skills as a trade-off for having no cooldown.
It's worth noting that Blink Arrow hasn't received any changes but works well with the Second Wind support. Alongside Dash, you can have a very mobile bow-based character. Travel Attacks also haven't been changed at this time but we'd like to add more attack-movement diversity in the future.

Changes to Spectres

We've added over 350 new monster types to the pool of possible monsters which can be used for Spectres. These are monsters that were not previously usable as spectres for technical reasons, such as unusual spawning behaviour or skills that only function in a specific context. Among them are monsters from Abyss, Delve, Betrayal, Synthesis, Legion and Conquerors of the Atlas content. Some of these monsters utilise skills that are fairly new and different to skills that are used by existing spectres so should allow for some new options for spectre builds.

We've gone through these monsters to make the appropriate AI and skill mechanic changes to ensure that they're able to still use their skills as spectres. Outside of these small improvements they remain relatively unchanged from their delightfully monstrous states.

In addition to this, all monsters that can be used as spectres can now also have corpses spawned using Desecrate once you have a spectre of them. Monster corpses that were previously impossible to spawn with Desecrate still can't be spawned unless you have a spectre of them (or entered the current area with a spectre of them), so you'll have to first find those monsters in the wild. Corpses that despawn shortly after death will still do so (unless created by Desecrate), as it's vital for performance in many cases. So you'll have to be quick off the mark with your spectre raising!

We plan to keep doing this in the future to ensure a steady supply of new spectres. If you happen to find a monster that you'd like to see as a spectre but isn't currently supported, please let us know!
