Will Ultimatum Become a Core Game Mechanic?

Posted: 29 Jun 2021 02:37 PM PDT

In just two days, we'll reveal a short teaser of our upcoming 3.15 expansion which will also confirm the dates of its announcement livestream and launch. That means the Ultimatum League is near its end and you may be wondering what the future looks like for this content.

The short answer is that we won't be making Ultimatum a core mechanic as part of our upcoming 3.15 expansion. However, we do like its content and may bring it back at a later date. In order to do this, it would first need a few improvements.

We would want to improve the combat of Ultimatum encounters so that the experience is less overwhelming and more tactical. While we do like things to be challenging, we currently feel that there are too many monsters spawning within the tight space of the circle and too many things going on at once.

We would also want to rebalance the rewards. The intent of Ultimatum's reward system was to make the Trialmaster's offers the main reward for the challenge. This currently isn't the case with far too many items spawning at the end of the trial. For Ultimatum to return, we would want to shift the balance back so that the Trialmaster's offers are the main reward for doing the encounter while also compensating for the item fountain being turned off.

So while you may see the Trialmaster again in the future, if you really enjoy being heckled by an undead entity of Chaos, it's best to get your kicks in now while you still can.

Performance Issues

This update contains a few changes that should improve performance for many players. That said, some performance issues still remain. The team is still actively working on more fixes across multiple platforms, including consoles. We will be monitoring the changes made within this bugfix patch for stability.

We're hoping this update will also help performance on the Raccoon City Police Station map, but we want to ensure it is stable enough to be reinstated for live games. We will be monitoring how the map is doing in custom games with these new changes and provide you all with an update soon.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work on further improvements to the game's performance!

Switch Performance

We have reduced the overall visual quality on Switch to help improve performance. The game may still crash when played on the Raccoon City Police Station map, but less frequently. Rest assured, we are still working on ensuring that the new map does not crash on this platform.

PUBG - Update 12.2 - Patch Notes

Update 12.2 - Patch Notes

Posted: 29 Jun 2021 12:18 AM PDT

PUBG began with the iconic 8x8 map Erangel; today, with Update 12.2 we're excited to release our newest 8x8 map: Taego.

Taego has diverse terrain and environments, with numerous towns, compounds, and unique points of interest across the Battleground. Be on the lookout for wildlife, with flocks of birds reacting to player movement and gunfire, giving you a potential early sign of danger ahead. Comeback BR and the Self AED are two new gameplay features exclusive to Taego, giving players a chance to get back into the fight.

Read on for full details.

New Map: Taego

  • Taego is available as the Featured Map.
  • Playable in TPP and FPP.
    • Solo and Squads, including 1-man Squad Modes are available.
    • Duos are not available.
    • Depending on your region, available modes and perspectives will vary.
  • Up to 100 players.
  • Bots can spawn.
  • Clear weather.
  • No Red Zone.
  • Wildlife: Two friendly bird varieties reside throughout Taego, reacting to player movement and gunfire.
  • Taego is available in Custom Matches.
    • Sandbox Mode is available for PUBG Partners.
Comeback BR
Comeback BR is a Taego exclusive second-chance mechanic allowing players who die during the first Blue Zone phase the chance to drop back into the fight later in the match.

Players who die during the first Blue Zone phase battle it out in the Comeback Arena, a location separate from the main Taego Battleground. Survivors who remain alive long enough in the Comeback Arena are transported by helicopter back to the Taego mainland in phase 3 to resume their fight for the Chicken Dinner.
  • Comeback BR is exclusive to Taego Squad matches.
  • Players who die before the first Blue Zone phase ends are eligible and see a timer indicating when Comeback BR begins.
  • All eligible participants are sent simultaneously to the Comeback Arena, separate from the main fight, and must find loot and items to stay alive, competing against other survivors.
  • There are no bots or knockdowns in Comeback BR.
  • Survive the timer indicated while fighting in the Comeback Arena, and you'll be transported back to the Taego mainland via helicopter with all your items and gear to continue your fight for the Chicken Dinner.
  • While health and boost levels are reset upon returning to the fight, your kills and stats are still recorded.
Self AED

Similar to Comeback BR, the Self AED is another Taego exclusive second-chance mechanic, giving players another opportunity to stay in the fight. The Self AED is a world-loot item that allows players to revive themselves when DBNO, without the need of a teammate, and can be used in Solo and Squad matches.
  • Press the interact button or click the Self AED in your inventory to activate the self-revive.
    • Cannot be canceled once started.
    • Cannot be used while already being revived by another teammate.
  • Squads: The Self AED can be used even if your entire Squad is DBNO, as a teammate holding the Self AED prevents your Squad from being immediately eliminated.
    • This gives you chance to self-revive and then revive your teammates.
    • If the whole Squad remains DBNO, you will be eliminated once all players with a Self AED are killed.
  • Solo: Having a Self AED allows you to enter DBNO instead of being instantly killed.
  • Self AED uses are recorded as revives in your stats.
New Weapons
K2

Introducing the K2; a world-spawn 5.56mm caliber AR popularized in the 80s and 90s era of which Taego is born. Firing in single, burst, or full-auto for combat versatility. Only available on Taego in Normal and Custom Matches.

Mk12

The Mk12 is a new hard-hitting, high-velocity 5.56mm caliber DMR exclusive to Taego, found as world-loot across the map in Normal and Custom Matches.

New Vehicle: Pony Coupe

Hyundai's first concept car, the Pony Coupe, has arrived in PUBG and is exclusive to Taego! Drive Hyundai's heritage Pony Coupe, featuring an all-wheel drive design for enhanced control across the diverse terrain of the Battlegrounds.

The Pony Coupe design was created by the master of automotive design, Giorgetto Giugiaro, and is a coupe concept car that first premiered at the Turin Motor Show in 1974. The next-generation electric vehicle model IONIQ5 was designed with a lot of inspiration from the Pony Coupe.
  • Maximum HP: 1,000
  • Maximum Speed: 150 km/h
  • The all-wheel-drive (AWD) system ensures maximum traction in rough conditions.
  • While being a 4-seater vehicle, due to the characteristics of a coupe, passengers in the back seats cannot shoot out of the vehicle.

How to Apply for Paladins Community Tournament Prizing Support

Posted: 28 Jun 2021 01:52 PM PDT

Here at Hi-Rez Studios, we've always been huge advocates for community growth and engagement -- and we pride ourselves on assisting communities of all sizes across the world. One manner in which we're able to do this is by providing our community tournaments with in-game rewards and (in some cases) promotional opportunities.
If you're a current community tournament organizer, or are looking to start organizing community tournaments for Paladins on any platform, this quick how-to guide will let you know what steps you need to take to be eligible for in-game prizing and more!

What Is A Community Tournament?
It's pretty simple! A community tournament is any tournament that's run by someone in our community -- that is, someone who is not affiliated with Hi-Rez Studios as an employee. Whether you're a large community with hundreds or thousands of members, an in-game clan, or a smaller group of friends who just want to have some competitive fun, community tournaments are a great resource!
If you're an aspiring administrator, broadcaster, commentator, or etc, community tournaments are where you can get hands-on competitive experience for Paladins.

How to Apply for Paladins Community Tournament Prizes
Applying for community tournament prizes is a simple process! Just follow the steps below and you'll be well on your way to getting prizes for your competitive series.

Step 1: Review our Funding Requirements
Before you start working on your formal application, you'll need to make sure you read and understand our latest Community Tournament License[web2.hirez.com], and Community Tournament Funding Requirements[drive.google.com]. We pride ourselves in the quality of the community tournaments that we assist with in-game prizes -- and in order to maintain this, we ask that current and prospective community tournament organizers all follow the requirements in the documentation above to ensure this quality is maintained.

Step 2: Submit an Application
After you've familiarized yourself with our community tournament funding requirements, you'll need to send us an application which includes a written proposal for your tournament or tournament series.

To help you get started, we've compiled a Prize Application Template[docs.google.com] which outlines what information you'll need to include in order for us to review your application. Please review this format in its entirety so you can make sure that your application is up to par! Following the proposal format as closely as possible will expedite the approval process for your tournament.
All community tournament proposals and inquiries should be directed to http://tournaments@hirezstudios.com.
Once you've submitted your application to that email address, one of our Community Specialists will be happy to assist you with your application or any questions you may have.

--------------------------

That's all there is to it! Read our funding requirements, submit a formal written application for your tournament, and then our esports specialists will work on approving that tournament so you can receive prizes from Hi-Rez Studios. If you have any questions, you can email the http://tournaments@hirezstudios.com address listed above to get in touch with our community tournament team. We hope to see you and your community in the Realm!

ARK: Survival Evolved - Community Crunch 274: Introducing Lost Island, Amargasaurus, and More

Community Crunch 274: Introducing Lost Island, Amargasaurus, and More

Posted: 25 Jun 2021 08:41 PM PDT

Explore new heights and hidden depths in this expansive 150 sq. kilometer map where Survivors will encounter new biomes, challenges, and mysterious ruins! Whether it's exploring the valley of waterfalls, setting up your treehouse home in the Redwood Forests, getting down and dirty in the vast swamps, diving deep underwater, climbing snowy mountains, or caving, there's something for every Survivor out there! Arriving with the map will be 3 brand new real-world creatures, including the Amargasaurus and one chosen explicitly by the ARK community!

Lost Island and its creatures will be a free DLC coming to Steam, Epic, Xbox, PlayStation later this year!

Of all the creatures in the sauropod family, Amargasaurus titanicus is likely the most unique looking. It sports two parallel rows of dorsal spines down the length of its neck, back, and tail--though the neck spines are significantly longer than the back or tail spines. These spines are a remarkable adaptation, giving Amargasaurus unmatched control of its body temperature. Made even more incredible by their time on ARKs, these spines store both extreme heat AND extreme cold, effectively allowing Amargasaurus to live comfortably in any environment. Its sails also make it an abnormally capable swimmer, for a sauropod.

Unlike most sauropods, Amargasaurus is very prone to violence, attacking most predators (and humans!) on sight. I suspect this behavior developed alongside the dangerous spines it uses as weapons.

Once finally tamed, it's no surprise that Amargasaurus' spines are its best feature. If removed early, their thermal storage becomes erratic, which is perfect for catalyzing sap development in many trees.

Some tribes, of course, adapted this thermal quirk for combat. By having Amargasaurus eject a spine before it sheds naturally, the freezing/warming waves that emanate from the spike play havoc with armor in the area. Interestingly, simple armor is barely affected, while more complex armor is more heavily affected.
