Divination Card Stories - Imperfect Memories

We're continuing to share backstories of Divination Cards created by our supporters. This time we spoke with Quelex about the story behind the Imperfect Memories, a Divination Card from the Siege of the Atlas expansion.



I have played games like Path of Exile since Diablo 1 came out when I was young. I've always enjoyed coming up with different ideas and testing how well they will work. I stumbled upon the website for PoE during its closed beta and thought it looked cool (especially as a person who loves Final Fantasy X's passive tree) but I didn't know anyone that played it. When the open beta came around my friend and I finally gave it a shot and we have been hooked and played every league since.

As with many other cards, the idea for the reward came first. I've always felt it was important to have special mods tied to content (like Incursion or Delve) to keep that content relevant to crafting. Synthesis league added a ton of stats and some you can't find anywhere else. I especially liked +% Attributes from jewelry as an implicit since I love playing Whispering Ice. So why not a 3 implicit synthesised jewelry so that you can try to hit at least one of those chase modifiers?

But there was a snag: You can't make a card for an item that can't drop in Standard. Synthesis was one of my favorite leagues and for over a year it looked like nothing from it would be coming back so the idea was shelved. With Echoes of The Atlas, synthesised and fractured items returned to the core game and so now the card I wanted could be made!

For the theme I wanted to connect something from my life to Synthesis. Synthesis League was a personal favorite, but it had its flaws. I thought back to how my then girlfriend (and now wife!) and I had been apart while she was at college a couple hours away. It was hard being apart but it made the times we did get to spend together on the beautiful campus memorable. Looking back it's easy to gloss over the bad parts. So I settled on the theme of nostalgia and the rest of the card came together quickly at that point. The art comes from a combination of the synthesis decay effect around the edges and a picture of a spot on the campus featuring a very assertive pilgrim goose that always wandered the campus with its duck friends in tow.

Thank you GGG for an amazing game, for adding my card, and for bringing more Synthesis content back to the game! (Synthesis 2 league when?) It's been wonderful to see other contributors bringing more opportunities for people to get synthesised items and maps so that part of the game can live on and be more accessible. And for all of those who made it to the end and have turned in a set: I'm sorry you got resists and mana regen. I'm sure you'll get an extra maximum power charge next time.

Community Crunch 317: Fjordur Release Date, Breeding EVO Event, and More!

Welcome to another edition of the Community Crunch!

Our next free expansion map, Fjordur, is right around the corner. On Sunday, June 12th, prepare to dive into Nordic-inspired adventure with 4 new creatures (Andrewsarchus, Fjordhawk, Desmodus, Fenrir) that are native to Fjordur!

Traverse a fantastical multi-layered wonderland with a frosty Nordic theme. Four unique islands, Vardiland, Vannaland, Bolbjord and Balheimr, and the mystical realms; Jotunheim, Vanaheim, and Asgard, offer elaborate cave systems resplendent with Scandinavian ruins and vast monolithic entrances.



Fjordur is the second community map released with completely new creatures, and the second to include another creature chosen by the ARK community. As we near closer to the launch date on June 12th, we'll be sharing more information regarding the timing of the rollout and servers!

On December 1st 2021 just 13 days before Lost Island released, my Dad passed away and it hit me hard. I wanted to honor him in ARK somehow so once Lost Island came out and i got on a community server, I built a memorial for my Dad on a little cliff just outside the castle in the Redwoods castle and placed the dermis of a Direwolf on top as he had a picture of a wolf on his computer that he took when me and him went to Yellowstone. Today would have been his birthday. Miss you Dad ❤️

THE REASON FOR THE SEASON
As Season 6 nears its final episode, the time has come to release a few spoilers. When you weren't trekking through channels in the potato-tastic Nomad Van, many of you reached new competitive peaks this Season. That deserves something special.

The Competitive Rewards for Season 6 will be Animated Universal Decals! Check out a preview of the rewards in the video on the {LINK REMOVED}.


Need a refresher? Here's how the Competitive Rewards work. Make sure you complete your ten placement matches to be placed in a Rank, and then fulfill your appropriate Season Reward Level at that rank (10 wins for each Rank beginning with Bronze).

In this latest edition of Designer's Notes, we'll go into more detail about the balancing changes that'll come with Operation Vector Glare's Season Test Server and give you an insight into the reasons behind these changes.

Please note that we are using presence to gauge the popularity of an Operator. This notion had to be introduced to reflect the implementation of the pick & ban.

Presence definition: pick rate of an Operator when not banned. Win Delta: The Win Delta is aggregated from Operator's Win Deltas per Bomb Site.

A NOTE ON THE BALANCING OF LMGS & FINKA
Before we dive into the balancing changes you can expect from Operation Vector Glare's Season Test Server, we wanted to address a topic we know is important to you. In the current state of Siege's balance, there are a few components that we agree are tuned a little high, specifically LMGs and Finka. We've been investigating how to bring them more in line with other Operators and weapon types and have begun putting this into action. In order to make sure these changes don't cause a ripple effect to the overall balance ecosystem, though, this has taken some additional time.
We can comfortably announce that adjustments will be coming to both LMGs and Finka in Y7S3. We know you were likely hoping for adjustments this season, so we ask for a little more patience as we work to do this right by you. We appreciate your passion for these changes and look forward to getting them in front of you next season!

GAME BALANCING
SCREEN SHAKE INTENSITY
  • Players can now turn off or reduce the intensity of screen shake feedback during gameplay from the Accessibility section of the Options menu.
Population targeted by this change: All.
Back in Y6S3[rainbow6.com], we deployed a change which reduced the intensity of screen shakes from explosions, removing it altogether in the case of certain gadgets. At the same time, we mentioned we were looking into options for players who encountered motion sickness as a result of these screen shakes. While we know screen shakes can be an important part of immersion for some players, we don't want that to come at the expense of others' comfort or ability to play the game.
This is why we have added an option to the Accessibility menu to adjust the intensity of screen shakes or turn them off entirely. Now, players can choose the option that best fits their preferred experience with Siege. Default will offer the same screen shake intensity you've come to expect over the last couple seasons, while Medium will offer a further-reduced option that should help provide a more comfortable experience to those who are prone to motion sickness. Of course, there will also be the option to turn off screen shake altogether.
We hope that by opening up these options, players will be able to better shape the comfort and immersion of their Siege experience.

CROUCH WALKING VOLUME
  • Increased the volume of footsteps while crouch walking.
Population targeted by this change: All.
We know those early-round frags where an Operator manages to sneak behind your squad's lines while crouch walking can be frustrating. Over the last couple months, we actively investigated the sound mix of crouch walking and found that the balance of sound to movement speed needed some tuning. Compared to alt walking, crouch walking offered an alternative that was both quiet and quick, so with Y7S2, we've tweaked the audio mix to increase the volume of these footsteps slightly.
Given how how fast you can still move while crouch walking, we wanted to better align the sound of this movement with comparable forms of walking. Watch the below video to hear this change in action:

Population targeted by this change: Casual.
This season will see quite a few of our Operators expanding their loadouts to include a third secondary weapon option. In many cases, this will mark the return of secondary weapons that were previously replaced from Operators' loadouts to make room for other gear like the Gonne-6.
In particular, by adding submachine guns to some of our longer-range Operators (Dokkaebi, Glaz, Tachanka), we wanted to help give them a bit more confidence in short-range skirmishes. Being committed to range is all well and good, but having the option of add some variety to their kit should help to open up new strategic angles in the long run.
Similarly, we wanted to ensure Clash and Kali had more options available to them to accommodate players who are not particularly comfortable with SMGs (or shotguns as well, in Clash's case). The addition of a semi-auto pistol should help round out their kits.

GLAZ
  • Changed to 1-Armor, 3-Speed (from 2-Armor, 2-Speed).
Population targeted by this change: Casual.
Adding on his new weapon slot, Glaz is also getting a new set of stats this season. To go along with the addition of a submachine gun, we've increased his mobility. While he will always be a niche entry pick thanks to a focus around his unique DMR, we wanted to give casual players more options to experiment with closer-range play as they adapt to his range and sightlines.

Many of our supporters (and winners of competitions!) have had the opportunity to design a Divination Card with us. A lot of them come with an amazing story or hidden meanings and we wanted to share these with the community! We talked with IronVsWild who designed the "The One That Got Away" Divination Card to learn the story behind their design.



Not many things manage to hold my attention for long periods of time. When I find something that does, I will gladly pour thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars into it over time. If I'm going to be interested in something for that many hours, I want to experience the best it has to offer.

To understand this card, you have to understand the path that led me to it. I honestly have no idea how I started playing Path of Exile. I've never played on Steam and I don't have any friends that play. But somehow, I ended up here during Legacy league. After a few days, I was quickly overwhelmed, and didn't return until Harbinger. Then, I started learning the game on my first character, an unascended Duelist that used Frost Wall and Flicker Strike - without generating frenzy charges. It didn't go well.

I was always into testing the limits of the game. Over time I got into crafting and mastered that system, making crazy items that I thought were interesting - Even if they weren't always good. During Harvest, the high end of crafting was pretty lackluster. Everything that could be made already was, so I decided to play SSF instead. My friend mentioned that someone had built a ladder that tracked unique tab completion in SSF, so I started collecting uniques to get on the ladder. Several months and thousands of hours later. I became the first and only person to collect every unique in SSF. I wrote about the experience on Reddit.

I had purchased a divination card several years ago at this point, and decided I wanted it to be about my accomplishment, but I just couldn't think of anything that fit. Heist came and went, and I spent a few months collecting all of those uniques too, except for Replica Bated Breath. I wrote about that experience on Reddit as well.

One day it hit me. Replica Bated Breath was a Fishing Unique with special drop requirements that nobody knew. It was a unique that nobody knew how to get, and I had the perfect solution. It was the one unique that got away, so that became the name of the card. I decided to hold a contest to design the rest of the card for the players who would appreciate it the most - Players that study Path of Exile's Fishing easter egg!

People offered prizes, there were special awards for various types of submissions, and everyone had an amazing time. There were so many good ideas for the art that I ended up combining a few of my favorites. My one request was that the person in the art was the same one as The Old Man card. I saw the flavor text early in the contest, and I knew it was the one. The feeling you get in the days after you FINALLY finish something you've been working on for a long time is odd. You feel hollow inside, aimless, despite your achievements. The flavor text captures this feeling perfectly.

The card was introduced with one of the lowest drop rates of all Divination Cards in Path of Exile, which was expected since it provided the rarest unique in the game. Despite that, I've received dozens of messages from other collectors thanking me for making it. They tell me about their attempts to farm for it. Some of them have even completed it! Nobody wants to grind for something without knowing how it drops, but grinding a rare drop for weeks on end? That's the lifeblood of this game.

I haven't played Path of Exile since I finished collecting those uniques, but it wasn't my last breath. My final goal wasn't completed. I'm eagerly awaiting Hardmode, so that I can savor life's missing pieces all over again.

Today, we're showing off the animation refresh coming soon to PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. We wanted to take the current animations and infuse them with the desperate struggle for survival that PUBG has become known for. The goal is that the intensity and tension that the player feels in every match is also reflected through their avatar.

We understand that longtime players who are already familiar with the existing character animations and movements might be concerned about adapting to the new ones. However, no timings have been altered during this process, and the weapon handling should feel exactly the same. It's more like a fresh coat of paint on your trusty Dacia. It looks new but handles just like you remember.

Again, we focused on minimizing the impact on your gameplay. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS' unique gunplay elements remain the same and animations were only altered to improve accuracy, add intensity and weight, and allow it to be expressed in action.

FPP Motion Refresh



    Weapon Animation
  • Previously, most of the action when handling or reloading a weapon happened off-screen. Reloading a gun allows players to better see the weapons they have skins for and have been working hard to customize, so we made more parts of it visible on the screen. Furthermore, we changed the character's movements to be more aggressive to make them feel more substantial.

    Sprint Locomotion

  • As mentioned in the weapon animation, most of the character's actions were happening off-screen when running with a weapon. Now the weapon's position has been raised to make it more visible. In addition, more intensity has been added to the weapon movement, which we think is more satisfying.

TPP Motion Refresh



Run and Walk, Start and Stop

  • The previous character movement was generally stable and consistent but without a convincing transfer of weight to speed. In other words, we had room to add some realistic movements, so we added more weight to the character's actions and made them more visible when changing speed.
Melee Attacks

  • Prior to the update, the melee attacks had some jitter and were evenly timed. We tried to make it more seamless and natural, and we think this helps make the action look and feel more powerful.
